Study of makeup history

In my thesis I intend to showcase the alternation of visible and invisible makeup usage from the 18th century to the early 20th century with consideration to the changing social roles of women.

As makeup is just as integral to fashion as costumes and hairdo are, the above period in question has been split up in accordance with the shifting of important clothing trends of the time. To provide an in-depth and fully fledged demonstration of the topic of my thesis, I organised a photo shoot.

I reconstructed the relevant historical makeup trends using classical techniques combined with modern-day products, due to the fact that cosmetics of the explored era were often poisonous or otherwise hazardous to human health. We can observe how each phase of visible makeup was followed by a time of invisible makeup, after which women would again begin to turn to the visible method.
